Green INSTRUCT present in the Nature-based Solutions (NBS) conference, 24-26 October 2017, Tallinn, Estonia

Green INSTRUCT participated in the conference “Nature-based Solutions: From Innovation to Common-use” (NBS) which was organized as part of the presidency of the Estonian Republic of the Council of the European Union, by the Ministry of the Environment of Estonia and the University of Tallinn from 24 to 26 October 2017.

The NBS conference hosted leading scientist, politicians and entrepreneurs from around the world who shared their experience on how nature-based innovations and eco-innovative technologies can be implemented in many areas of life. These innovations and technologies offer ways of tackling societal challenges such as climate change, water security, food security and human health through sustainable management and use of nature. Nature-based solutions can also contribute to economic growth and creation of new green jobs, by providing products and services that improve the natural capital rather than exhausting it. Smart-city solutions in combination with nature-based solutions can offer ways to increase the resilience of cities and the wellbeing of its citizens.

Green INSTRUCT was presented within the session: blue-green infrastructure in smart cities. This session highlighted ways in which blue-green infrastructure can complement smart cities in the near future. Questions like: how can NBS create cities with higher wellbeing and health for its citizens? What are the best policy practices in the implementation of NBS in cities and is there a need for an EU wide policy? etc. where discussed.

Green INSTRUCT project present at the IWA Conference on Sustainable Solutions for Small Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems,22-26 October 2017, Nantes, France

Green INSTRUCT project was present at the IWA (International Water Association) Conference on Sustainable Solutions for Small Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems , short S2Small 2017, which took place in Nantes, France from the 22nd to 26th of October.

This joint conference brought together the 14th IWA Specialized Conference on Small Water and Wastewater Systems (SWWS) together with the 6th IWA Specialized Conference on Resources-Oriented Sanitation (ROS) and the 3rd International Conference Terra Preta Sanitation & Decentralized Wastewater System. This conference was intended for researchers specialized in environmental sciences, engineers working in research and development, stakeholders from the water sector (local community, water agencies etc.), and entrepreneurs. The scope of the conference was to demonstrate that small water and wastewater systems represent part of the solution for the future of humanity.

Green INSTRUCT was represented by alchemia nova, one of the partners of the innovative project, which attended the conference and participated in a poster session disseminating the Green INSTRUCT solution and technologies.

The Green INSTRUCT solution could be a very appeling solution in this sense, which attracted great interest from several communities worldwide including France, Spain, Norway, India, and Singapore.

Forums, speeches and expert discussions provide space for exchange and networking. C2C actors contribute to the development of alternative approaches and therefore enhance the idea of a positive footprint. As part of the Congress some companies present their products and illustrate the possibilities within the scope of C2C and their practical implementation.

In C2C Congress 2017 in Lueneburg there was a special track on C2C future of building & architecture, in which the Green INSTRUCT representatives presented Green INSTRUCT aims and preliminary findings. About 1.000 people visited the conference and shared insight and information on C2C-innovations in building and architecture.

Green INSTRUCT present at European Researchers’ Night, 29 September 2017, Vienna, Austria.

On September 29, 2017 alchemia-nova presented the functional green wall panel at the European Researchers’ Night at “Technologisches Gewerbemuseum” in Vienna. Researchers from universities, research institutes and private companies contributed to the transfer of scientific knowledge to students in 20 workshops and with over 50 booths.

Among the 3.500 visitors, the audience appreciated the possibility to talk to scientists and innovators face to face, while especially young students enjoyed being a researcher for a day. At alchemia-nova’s interactive booth, visitors were invited to mix artificial greywater with soap, shower gel, deodorant and so on and then poor the mix in the green facade structure. The panel simulated the water purification process and enthused the audience. The team of alchemia-nova explained how plants and microoranisms in a green façade are able to purify domestic and industrial waste water which can then be used to flush toilets or water the garden.
