Green INSTRUCT present in the Nature-based Solutions (NBS) conference, 24-26 October 2017, Tallinn, Estonia

Green INSTRUCT participated in the conference “Nature-based Solutions: From Innovation to Common-use” (NBS) which was organized as part of the presidency of the Estonian Republic of the Council of the European Union, by the Ministry of the Environment of Estonia and the University of Tallinn from 24 to 26 October 2017.

The NBS conference hosted leading scientist, politicians and entrepreneurs from around the world who shared their experience on how nature-based innovations and eco-innovative technologies can be implemented in many areas of life. These innovations and technologies offer ways of tackling societal challenges such as climate change, water security, food security and human health through sustainable management and use of nature. Nature-based solutions can also contribute to economic growth and creation of new green jobs, by providing products and services that improve the natural capital rather than exhausting it. Smart-city solutions in combination with nature-based solutions can offer ways to increase the resilience of cities and the wellbeing of its citizens.

Green INSTRUCT was presented within the session: blue-green infrastructure in smart cities. This session highlighted ways in which blue-green infrastructure can complement smart cities in the near future. Questions like: how can NBS create cities with higher wellbeing and health for its citizens? What are the best policy practices in the implementation of NBS in cities and is there a need for an EU wide policy? etc. where discussed.
